Bank of America refuses to help me keep my house, they only want to foreclose

I have been in talks with Bank of America to try to work out a agreement to start making payments on my house. I lost my job for 10 months could not make my payments. I just got a job where I can continue to make payments. I told them to add my missed payments to my loan. Although the house that I paid $415k is only worth $167k and I paid for five years with out a late payment. They are not willing to help me or work something out. They said to short sale, I put 100k as a down payment. I had some bad luck but I'm back on my feet. You would think they would give me an opportunity instead of forcing me to short sale and give the benefits to a stranger.
