Opted Out of Overdraft Protection and Still Hit With Four NSF Fees

Got a letter in the mail that I can opt out of overdraft protection and therefore not be charged overdraft fees so I did that, came time to pay my credit card bill so I gave the company my account number turns out there wasn't enough funds in the account, so you would think everything is fine bec I opted out of overdraft protection turns out instead of paying my bill and charging me an overdraft fee) which they didn't do because I opted out of it to avoid the fee), they charged me a non sufficient fund fee of $35 4 times for a total of $140 because the credit card company tried again when it didn't go through the first, second or third time
