Washington Mutual Bank
Mislead About Overdraft Protection

Business & Finance

I was charged $34.00 for an overdraft fee per overdraft. It racked up to $136.00 (all in the same day) before I had realized what I had done. My first ever overdraft, I was not charged anything. They failed to mention that if I did it again, I would be charged this much. Why have overdraft protection if I'm going to be charged out the *ss each time? I asked them. I thought overdraft PROTECTION was supposed to protect customers from high fees when they make a mistake. I asked them if there was a way to avoid these fees if this were to ever happen again. They told me about 2 other overdraft "protection" options, both of which I had never heard of before. Both were complete scams. The lady told me I would only have to pay $12 if I set it up so that they could pull money from my savings account to cover the check amount. WOW! Doesn't that sound great? Much better than $34, BUT here's the catch. There is a $25 fee for the transaction. The last option was the overdraft loans we've been hearing a little about in the news. I read that they mislead people with this option. Not me. I asked what the interest was. She seemed surprised that I asked and reluctant with the answer. It was some ungodly percentage. They're CROOKS! No matter what, they found a way to make money off of people at every angle! They may have written all this in the fine print, but I feel they should still not be allowed to mislead customers in these ways and, I would really like some of my money back!
