Extra Charges

We have purchased property back in October and Citimortgage was escrowing my account to low so we had contacted the company several times and pointed out the problem. Next thing we know was that there were extra $476.23 charges in our mortgage statement for the penalty and late fee. We did complaint to the customer service the answer was "We are not responsible! You are the one who is responsible!" Are you kidding me? Why would you escrow property tax if the mortgage company will pay it late and make me pay the penalty. We asked Citimortgage if we could pay our own tax and the answer was "NO" because they didn't want us to default on payment. We will fight for this charges no matter what it takes because it is not right and because it is such a common sense any one to understand. Please help us!
