Bank Of America - BOA
Bank of America closed my account after deposit of counterfeit check, with police report...? Nationwide

Business & Finance

Bank of America closed my account over a counterfeit check. A check that I had received for purchase of my boat that I was selling, which was for the amount of $3,100.00. The check showed up UPS, but was from a bank in Texas, and the person whos account it was on was also in Texas. But the UPS envelope came from Bozeman Montana.
I called the Police, and they thought it seemed fishy as well. But it threw them for a loop as to why someone would pay UPS to overnight the check to me. The only way to find out if it was infact a good check or not was to take it to the bank and let them tell me. Naturally they tell you to deposit the check and they will know if it is good or not within a couple of days.

The check came back counterfeit, so they said I put them (the bank) "at risk" and closed my account. They never credited anything to my account from the check, nor did I try to spend anything against the value of this check. I did not even endorse it. I was told by the detective I spoke with to take it to the bank and if it turned out to be a good check to call them back and tell them so they didnt waste their time on the case.
It is really frustrating that I am being dropped by my bank. Like they are the victims here. Of course that person did not get my boat, it was later sold to someone else. But really makes me angry that they closed my account over this situation. I told them there was a police report made, and the only purpose of depositing the check was to try to find out if it is good or not. But they did not care. They said it was their decision to "end the relationship" with me.
They didnt have any intentions of cooperating with any legal actions against myself, or the person who wrote the check whom still at this point is not even clear. Police think it was one of those scammers trying to get me to cash the check and send them money??? Anyway Bank of America is bad in my book. Would not recommend them to anybody. If you get a check and think it might be no good dont take it to them. They will drop you if it comes back counterfeit, or forged or whatever. But yeah "I" put "THEM" at risk. Consumer = living paycheck to paycheck, vs. BANK= millons of dollars and I PUT THEM At risk? I am certain there is some regulating agency in Texas that will say differently of this matter with Bank of America. What they did is absolutely retarded, and makes no sense.
