Had trouble getting them to release a garnishment after full payment... AND payback money THEY owed ME

I got a letter notifying me of a lawsuit last year regarding a Providian card that was charged off years ago. I had no clue about statute of limitations laws, so I let the debt go.

Soon after, I got a notice saying my wages would be garnished after being sued in county court. With me living in another state and just starting a new career, I wasn't able to afford or speak to a lawyer back in Maryland, so I had my next two paychecks garnished. I was able to get enough money to pay the rest of it off, so I sent it to Protas, Spivok and Collins to get them to release the garnishment.

After THEY acknowledged that the account was paid, said and done, ANOTHER check was garnished. When I called to investigate, a David Satterfield told me "Uh, your account is done, and its somewhere on the girls' desk to be sent to your job". This answer was obviously not going to work. After about 5 phone calls (two of which they answered) I had to talk him through the process of sending notification to my job that this debt was paid.

Mr. Satterfield told me that my last garnishment (after the debt was paid) would be refunded to my job. It's been 3 weeks since this has been paid off, and I haven't seen that missing part of my wages yet.

I could have avoided this if I knew about the statute of limitations laws I've read about here.
