Get to know about the rules of out of statute

I received a call from a man named John, and he got me to make a $50.00 payment towards a credit card I had 10 years ago. He said I owed $4,800.00 I remember the card. It had a $500.00 Balance on it! Anyway I made the $50.00 Payment. Shortly after I talked to some friends about the situation, and they told me the debt was Out of Statute. So told told John at FRS to never call me again. About a year later I received a letter from them. I never Opened it. Apparently they confirmed my employment with my human resources, and sent me a Summons. Since I didn't respond within 21 days they won a judgment against me!
Then my paychecks started getting garnished and attorney fees and court fees were also added. It turned into a $7,800.00 Judgment. I found out that making that $50.00 Payment put my account back into an active status, because of the statute of limitations goes by the last activity on the account. This Judgment also gets ridiculous interest! I'm going to be garnished until I retire!
