Over Draft Fees Rape

About 2 months ago I was going through a financial rough patch. I had written a check for funds that I thought I was going to have but then I ran up against an emergency. Being a single mom of two growing teens emergencies were to close together.

Anyway... I called the 800 customer service number and spoke to a girl who was to good to be true friendly. I asked her about the outstanding check and explained to her that the funds were not going to be available. She reassured me that the check was still pending and that it wouldn't go through because she could see that the funds were not there. I asked her for some type of confirmation. She said that because it was a Saturday she could not stop the check from going through but to not worry because it just would not go through. There was no money in the account, right? She told me that on Monday the check would not go through and that the little money that I had would still be there.

Great! I would be able to get food and stuff for the house. Wrong!!! They honored the check which made me go over by about $200 plus the outrageous NSF fees that this assessed. Needless to say, I immediately stopped my direct deposit and started getting paper checks because they doo this like every 3 months or so. I received a bill from them today asking for the outstansing amount. I guess I wll pay them little by little.

In the mean time I will stick to making my payment the old fashioned way... Money orders and mail. It is slow but it is safer and I would rather pay for a stamp then for fees that I know I should not be charged after telling them what was going to happen.
