Credit Source
Ripoff for no hidden fees credit card with low interest

Business & Finance

I just read a report from Perry in California about a scam from Credit Source. It sounded very familiar—like I had heard almost exactly the same thing this past Monday. Someone called and said that I had been turned down for an application in September (which I had filed an application for, but received the card). She said that she was from a credit application processing center, and that my application was in a type of second chance processing where if a bank turns you down for a card, they give to them to offer you another card with no hidden fees, limits up to $2500 with verifcation of $1000 income/month, and is solely based on your income—not your credit. She only had to debit my checking account for $298 on the date I choose within the next 4 weeks. She said that the call would be recorded in accordance with the Credit Protection Act to verify my information & responses. I asked her what the name of her company would show as on my checking statement, she said "Credit Source". I also asked her if they did business with my bank, since she had told me they do this all time with banks. But she couldn't verify that she had ever heard of my bank—one of the largest in NJ. I actually asked her how I was supposed to know that this wasn't a scam? She said that she could not offer me any proof, except that the call was being recorded, and that my bank could and would not debit my account without 1st hearing the tape recording of me saying yes. Oh, she was real good. Sounded really convincing. But while I said I would get my check book, I actually called my bank to find out if the debitting was allowed without her so-called "taped response". THEY SAID EMPHATICALLY NO! It could be taken anytime with the account info. With no verification at all. To make a long story short, I told her thanks but no thanks because I just couldn't be sure about them. I did have my doubts later on and wondered if I did the right thing. I'm really glad I came across this site, because now I know I made the right choice. Looks like it was a scam after all.
