Ripoff phone call scam credit offer for bad credit declined credit

I received a call from "New Credit Financial" responding to my recent credit application and offering me a line of credit. I didn't like being called rather than calling, but I did apply elsewhere recently, so I assumed that it was associated and started discussing terms.

An employee named Tony said that they just needed my bank information to confirm my status with the bank. This sounded odd to me, so as I talked over the details with him, I did an Internet search on this company. They have a bad history! Unfortunately, I'd already given him my checking information, but I told him not to continue with the registration, and I think that I stopped it in time because he was still trying to get me to verify my name for the recording.

One aspect that was deceptive was that he said that they just needed the routing information to verify that I had an account with said bank. Only when I actively asked him for more details did he mention that a large fee would be deducted and that he had gotten my information due to a declined credit application.

Also, when he transferred me to finalize the call, he played a recording, with both the recording and his new introduction making it sound as though *I* were the one doing the calling and this was the start of the conversation. So, he was apparently selectively recording our conversation in order to be deceptive about what had occured.

At this point, I immediately told him that i no longer wanted the card. He asked me why, and I told him that I would look into other options I received in the mail. He became a lot less friendly after this statement, saying that the other offers would just cost me money and I wouldn't get a card anyway. Then, he hung up abruptly.

I tried calling both of the numbers he gave me to confirm that my card had NOT been processed. One number just lead to a dead phone line after a brief intro, and the other one lead to a voice mail box that was full.

Bad, bad business!
