My 88 year old aunt had a bill that became late when she was treated for cancer. Portfolio Recovery Associates hounded her for the money even when they were made aware of the fact that she did not have the money to pay it.
I offered to make monthly payments however a person who claimed her name was Miss Brown (I doubt this was her true name) insisted that in order to pay the bill I would have to give her my personal bank account information so she could deduct the money from the account. I told her there was no way I was going to give her my account number at which point she said she would just send the account to lawyers for suit. I told her that we would respond at that time. These people are absolute criminals who try to prey on people who don't know any better.
