Employing caller id to get family numbers Ripoff

Due to job loss and medical bills, we got behind on our payments.in all fairness, we were about 3 months behind on our payments. I called earlier in the day and made arrangements to get them a payment that day. I was told i should call back after i made a western union quick collect and give them the control number. The first person i talked to was john and he was really nice. The next people i talked to after i made the payment, not so much. I decided to use my mother's cell phone to call the moment i made the payment. Much to my surprise, they recorded on my account my mother's cell number and when the phone cut out (cingular, nuff said) they called me back on her cell phone!!! I didn't give them the number and i asked how they got it. They said they have caller id. So now they have my mother's cell number down as a contact number. I asked them nicely to please not use that number on my account, then the nice dragon lady named Janine informed me that they can and will use this number and started asking questions like why hadn't i gotten a job yet and the next time my account goes into default they are going to contact the lawyers and take my house! I called consumer protection and they said it is perfectly legal for them to do this as long as they are not harassing. Does anyone know if this is true?
