Ridiculous and outrageous late charge ripoff

I had a balance on my credit card of $14.95. The statement got buried on my desk and I mailed the payment a day late. OK, So yes I was late. I always pay my bills on time and have excellent credit, this one just got over looked.

When the next statement arrives it says that I'm past due by a month and to pay now. OK so my payment and their statement crossed in the mail. Also on the statement is a late charge of $29.00. That got my attention. A $29.00 late charge on a $14.95 past due balance.

So I've been with Capital One for years but this does not make me happy. So I call their 800 # and tell them I want to close my account and of course they ask why and I tell them the story. I'm not going to do business with a company that rips you of with unreasonable late charges. So they tell me that I have to talk to an account specialist and transfer me. After 15 minutes of being on hold listening to the annoying banjo hold music I hang up. I call them back and end up on hold again with the same music. That's like adding insult to injury. So I wrote them a letter instead and shredded my card.

Just a heads up to look out for Capital One.
