Ripoff Trying to collect on a 10 yr repossessed car!

I've been reading about all the horror stories involving this co. If someone can help me it will be greatly appreciated.

They are trying to collect on a car loan that was repossesed back in 1997. This issue don't even come up on my credit report anymore. Supposedly they bought the account from Ameristar Florida Dealers Financial Corp. The issue here is that the car on this loan was turned in by myself the loan company and was written off as a "Voluntary Repossesion"; yes I know, it's a repo nontheless. Ok, my question is: Can they do this? And what can I do to fight this off. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
