Business & Finance

Let me tell you about the experience my college bound daughter had with Bank of America. She started school at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte. BoA had a booth up allowing the kids to start accounts instantly. The students had to make a deposit into the account with in 45 days. My daughter did this. Her student loan check came in and she went into BoA and deposited the entire check 3 days later. Two weeks later she called home. There was NO money in her account. She called BoA and they told her she had to go into the office and find out what was happening. The hours in Charlotte included being closed on week ends, and Mon thru Fri hours they opened at 9 and closed at 3. The next day I received her loan check in the mail. BoA enclosed a note saying they believed the account to be fraudulent and they had closed the account. My daughter missed classes and went into the main office of BoA. She was reassured it was their error. She would be able to use her ATM card, her account, and her standing would be restored with them. Over the next 3 weeks she attempted several times to make deposits. Everything came back saying the account was closed. I then received a call from BoAs fraud division. They closed the account saying they believed it was fraud. At that point my daughter again called them and was apologized too, but the account was NEVER re-opened. She then received a letter saying that BoA had closed the account on Sept. 15. She decided enough was enough and started using a different bank.in January she received a letter from BoA claiming she owed them almost $20 because she had failed to deposit money into an account that BoA closed, that BoA returned the loan check, and that she was never able to use. She called BoA, their response was to bad so sad pay us. She filed a complaint with the BBB.in February she received another letter from BoA saying again they closed the account because they didn't feel my daughter understood her responsibilities in opening a bank account and were erasing any fees. She heard nothing until My 2006. At that time BoA said she owed fees for Sept. 2005 thru May for never depositng money into the account. Again she complained to BoA. Again they responded with to bad so sad pay us. Again she complained to the BBB. At this point she had 4 letters, the first dated in Sept. 2005 saying BoA had closed her account. After her last complaint to BBB I received a call telling me I should instruct my daughter on how to properly maintain a bank account, she has 3 others in our local area and has had 1 of them since she started baby sitting at 12, and they were closing her account (again?) and she would never be allowed to open any accounts with BoA. Why would she want to??? Bank of America is the worst bank I have ever seen.
