Ripoff harassing

I recently had a bill get sent to collections and unfortunately NCO Financial was responsible for collecting. I have tried many times to pay off the debt and I will set up a check over the phone for a certain day and 2 weeks later the money is still sitting in my account.

But they still continue to harrass me about the debt. I have tried to explain that this should have been taken care of several weeks ago and they insist that I give them another check over the phone.

I have refused to do so, I am afraid that all of a sudden they are going to cash all my checks and the funds won't be available to them and they will nail me with more charges.
What do I do?
