Attempted to rip me off

I was contacted by a customer service representative using the name Marlon that stated I had been approved for that I had applied for ealier this year. I had no recollection of this, but he made me an offer that I could not refuse.

I was being offered a Spectra Financial MaasterCard with a credit limit of $2000 with 0% APR for the first three years. All I had to do was pay a one time $249 activation fee. This was supposedly a limited time offer to promote this company. After asking several questions and running by my girlfriend, that has been in customer service with credit card companies in the past, I accepted the offer and agreed to have the money debited from my checking account on 3/7/05.

The money was never debited from my acount, so I called both of the customer service numbers they had given me and they both turned up with answering machines. I then tried to look up the company on the net and found this site.

I talked to two people on this day, the first being Marlon, the customer service rep., the second being the verification officer going by the name of Emily. Here is the information that I tok down while on the the phone with these people. I hope that this will help get to the bottom of this and put an end to this scam.

I think the first phone number, given to me by Marlon, was given to me by mistake, because the verfication officer gave me a different one and said the first one was wrong and not to call it. I called both numbers and both were answering machines.
