I wish I had found this site earlier, because maybe I could have prevented some unwary consumers from dealing with Michael Lange, the proprietor of Countryside Mortgage.

I found Countryside through an ad on Interest.com in September which showed a rate of 4.000% with no points. After finally getting a hold of Lange, he said the rate was still available. He agreed to lock me in just with a verbal agreement over the phone.

10 days later, the application form finally arrives in the mail. He now says the rate moved up to 4.25%. I demanded an explanation from Lange, but he doesn't reply.

On closing day, Lange assures me everything is ready to go. I go to the settlement table and find that the loan is not ready. I go to the settlement table the next day, but again, no loan. On the third day, Lange pulls his now infamous disappearing act, later claiming that there was a death in the family.

Since Lange could no longer be found, I had to do the legwork find out the status of the loan and to get it through approval. After making a visit to his office and home, Lange finally calls me and appears to cooperate.

However, when I appear for settlement late in the evening on the 6th day after my contracted settlement date, Lange pulls yet another stunt, increasing my rate another 1/8% and adding thousands of dollars of undisclosed broker fees to the loan.
