Unauthorized Match.com Charge and Fraud Form Requiring a Notary

I had been a loyal Citibank customer for over 10 years. I hadn't used my Citibank Mastercard for over two years, and since I had gotten married and my husband already had another Citibank account, I called Citibank to close my account.

But after speaking at length with a very nice, hard-working Citibank customer service rep, I was convinced to keep my account. He told me they would stop sending me the checks in my monthly statement, which I was concerned someone could get hold of and charge to my account.

Well, lo and behold, about two months later I got a charge on my account from Match.com. Keep in mind my card was never out of my possession, so I called Citibank and cancelled my account immediately. They sent me a form to fill out for fraudulent charges, which included getting the form signed by a notary public.

The time, money and hassle it would have taken me to get a notary to sign the form wasn't worth it. In the meantime, I also incurred a late fee on an account I never wanted in the first place. That got my blood boiling, so I called Citibank and spoke to Kristen, a so-called "manager" who refused to give me her last name. She said they weren't allowed to. I told her that was another poor business practice.

Now I understand how Citibank scams money out of the little guys, by manipulation and by creating red tape so consumers get discouraged. Thank you for reading.
