Business & Finance

I received a phonecall on November 16 by a man named Clarence. He said I had been approved for a $500 unsecured visa credit card. He gave me a confirmation number (7551) and told me a customer service representative would call me and ask for my confirmation number. Not five minutes later a man named Jerrund called saying he was calling from Phoenix Consumer Services Inc. And I needed the confirmation number that I had been given by the first representative that called me. I asked where did his company get my cell phone number from and he said from the bank because I was turned down by them when I applied for a credit card.

At that time it sounded believable. Jerrund asked for my information such as address and full name. He said there would be a one time fee of $129.95 and I would recieve a packet to fill out and they would also send the credit card. He told me they would need to take out the fee by the 23rd of November before sending the packet. At that time he asked how would I like to pay and I decided to debit it out of my checking account.

On the 23rd I called the customer service line (1-866-799-2788) to let them know the money was in the bank. The line stayed busy and an answering machine would come on when the line did ring telling the caller to leave a message and someone would call back. Well as you know that did not happen. I decided to call the operator and ask for an alternate phone number. There is a company in Niagara, New York and Largo, Florida. I called both numbers and asked if they were a part of the same company that called me and they said yes and gave me the same customer service number I had been calling. I told the lady on the phone that I had beed calling and leaving messages for three days and no one calls back or answers the phone. I asked her is this normal behavior and she said they were busy and had not gotton to my message yet. And I said, " In three days that is not good customer service" then she said I will call customer service and get someone to call you (of course that did not happen). I called back the next day and asked if I could apply for a credit card and the man that answered the phone said he would get someone to call me back and my confirmation number was 7551 (go figure!).

Guess what someone called me back and said I was chosen to recieve a unsecured visa, not I am returning your phone call. Obviously they use the same line on everyone they call. I let him go through his dialogue and asked him after I recieve the packet will I get a credit card with a limit of $500 and he said yes. I also asked him can I get my money back and he said yes. At that that time I said why did I recieve a packet in the mail directing me to a website (http://www.centennialcard.com/) instructing me to apply for a Centennial Credit Card. This card gives you a total of $178 in fees which leaves you with a $72 available balance.

The representative told me they would call me back when I called this to his attention and assured me this was not the same company that sent me the literature and he would check back with me. Of course I haven't recieved a phone call yet. I am still calling the company trying to get my money back (129.95).
