Door-to-Door Sale, Then $450 Cancellation Quote After 6 Days

Some so-called private contractors came door to door offering me a sweet deal of $34.99 monthly, which would include DVR, HD, Showtime, Starz and HBO. I thought, yeah, good deal, and I asked whether I would be charged for anything. The guy said yeah, the DVR, but I would get a full rebate on it, so cool.

But when I made the check out to Direct TV, the next day the guy brought it back ripped and said sorry, only to my name or with cash. So I was like, uh, OK. Dummy me went for it and wrote him a check to his name. Then when they installed it, it took them 3 days, with a poor signal and wires everywhere. They didn't even clean up their mess.

It's been 6 days, I received my bill, and I'm being billed charges that I didn't agree to, and I did not receive any paperwork. Nothing whatsoever. These guys were awful. So I called customer service, and they told me the guys that came aren't Direct TV. They're using the Direct TV system, so if anything happens, I don't take it up with the guys who came to my house, only now with Direct TV. And she said that to cancel, it's only been 6 days, would cost me $450.00 for just 6 days of it.

Do not... and I mean do not go for private contractors. Make sure they have IDs and everything on paper, everything.
