International Flight Booking - Travel to Rome

Expedia fails to mention BEFORE you book thru them that certain foreign airlines (Alitalia and Air France for SURE), will not allow you to pre-select seats prior to when you check-in the day of the flight! When called, they specifically state " due to the nature of how these tickets were purchased, you will not be allowed to pre-select seats. You will be assigned seats upon your checkin for your flight on the day of departure." When you ask "nature of how they were purchased...", they state "thru Expedia". I tried to have Expedia customer service supervisor intervene and after 3 hours on the phone with two separate supervisors, she got Alitalia to relent and give us seats... Air France refused to do so! I highly recommend you consider this before you book thru Expedia and check with other 'discount travel' firms before finalizing booking. Saving a few $ is NOT worth sitting in the word seats for 8 hours!!!
