Terrible customer service and a complete rip off

Booked tickets to go on a much needed vacation have been on a military base iin Afghanistan for the last 6 months. Called to find out what the upgrade to business class would be on one of my flights and was told $5,000. Went to the website of the airline and all total tickets with the upgrade round trip were $2,100. How does that make any sense?
