Park Lane Hotel and Suites
Accessing Debit Card Without Permission

Traveling & Tourism

This hotel used my debit card to access money on three occasions without my knowledge. When I logged into my bank account, I noticed it was overdrafted. On 4/15/20 $20 was withdrawn, on 4/16, an amount close to $100 was withdrawn. I checked out on 4/17. On 4/18 another amount was withdrawn close to $120. With a total of close to $250. I called up the hotel immediately and asked why were these amounts taken out of my account without my prior knowledge. The response was that they do that to ensure the room is not damaged. I said that was illegal. I told them they had no right to do that without my prior knowledge. I was appalled at the fact that they even went so far as to withdraw money from my account the day after I checked out. They denied the first amount, but it was clear to me that they lied. My account clearly showed the amount taken out with the code, date, name of business and amount. They had no idea what I was talking about. My customer service rep said they knew and it was clear that this was a fraudulent act. Per my bank's recommendation, I had to cancel my debit card immediately. They could not explain why I was not informed at check in. The person whom I spoke with said they would release the money in 3 business day. The amount of money taken out on 4/16 mysteriously was returned to my account, after I informed by bank's Claim Assistance Department about that amount. My account became positive again, but one day later, my automatic debits for three bills came in, and my account was again overdrawn because of the amount not released. I was charged $35 for the overdrafted amount. I notified my bank and spoke with a supervisor who called the hotel about releasing the amount immediately. They released the money. I had not traveled for a while, but when I did, only a $20 fee was charged to my account, then released upon my checking out. So please beware of this ahead of time and ask about this during check in. This is my lesson not to trust your debit card with any hotels, even if they are located in a resort island. You are better off going to a reputable hotel and spend the money. This hotel was not cheap ($179/night) through Expedia not including taxes and fees. The hotel also charged me $15.00 hotel fee during check out. Customers beware of this hotel. I've been invonvenienced because it is going to take 5 to 10 business days to get a new debit card.in the meantime, I have to write checks. I hate dealing with checks.
