Homestead Suites
Hotel Refuses all responsibility for breakin of car in their lot

Traveling & Tourism

I just moved in to Homestead Suites on San Ramon Valley Boulevard at Bollinger Canyon road a month ago. (Jan 22) My pickup was parked in the rear of the hotel on January 28th. It was locked and the alarm on. Someone smashed the passenger front window, rifled the glove box, and made off with my GPS mount and cord. It was obviously a "Smash & Grab" robbery.

What makes me angry is that the grounds have no lights, or cameras at all. Moreover, the perimeter hedge has well trodden breaks and foot paths where people obviously have cut thru the grounds on an ongoing basis. There is no fence keeping the casual thief from entering the grounds. They should put up a sign "WELCOME THIEVES"!

They do have some very small signs, hidden by uncut branches warning you to lock your car and take out valuables, and of course, the obligatory disclaimer of all responsibility.

I think a hotel guest should have some reasonable expectation of security in a parking area. The hotel manager said he would send it to the insurance company to see what could be done. However, as of March 1st, nothing is moving in that area. He is obviously hoping I will forget about this and not bother him.

However as this has cost me over $300 dollars, considering a broken window, and replacing the GPS cord, that is a forlorn hope on his part. I plan to give him lots of unwanted publicity.

Further, I would warn against anyone staying at this hotel. The high speed internet will not even allow viewing of of news video clips from Yahoo, or CBS or ABC or MSNBC without fitfully stopping and starting constantly. Basically, I would class this hotel as a ripoff.

* A little update as of yesterday. The manager called me and was upset because he was receiving emails as people looked at my complaint on thesqueakywheel.com. He told me that he was going to pay for the break in damage. However, I have heard nothing yet from him.

I invite you to go to the web address below, and look at the pictures. That should explain why I am so angry. Guests do have a right to expectations of security staying at a hotel, contrary to the disclaimers thrown about of no responsibility.

The internet speed problem is down to corporate chicanery. I know this because I had to go up to stay in Salem oregon for a week in another of your hotels. I tested the internet speed there and it is limited to 200k up/down speed as well. I should add that I am an engineer, BSEE, and I know how to do this. I pretty much live on the road, and I resent being treated this way. Guys like me are your lifeblood, and it is most disgusting to find the problems I have found.

Being an engineer enables me to locate many places and groups where you probably do not want me publishing these problems. Until these problems get fixed, I will be a long term irritant, and hopefully can warn others to go elsewhere.
