United Airlines
No access to ticket purchased for friend

I have purchased flights from a number of airlines however this one really takes advantage of people. The problem, I was going to fly out a friend to meet up with them and they suggested that they preferred flying with United Airlines. So I purchased a ticket for them and decided to go on from there. Two days later, I hear back from them saying that they would not be able to make the flight as something had come up.

So I figured no problem, I would cancel the flight and figure that there would be a penalty but at least I would get back some part of the $600 flight. This is where the problems came to be with Untied Airlines.
Problem 1) Because it was a "Non-Refundable" ticket, no refund can be done.

I figured with that then I would use the credit for myself as I had some flights that I would need to do and felt that I could utilize that.
Problem 2) ONLY the person who's name is on the ticket may use the credit for a future flight.

So basically they are telling me that even though I bought the ticket for the friend, who can not take the flight now, they are the ONLY person that can use the funds that were left over.

I figured, what a rip-off that is. I have no trouble in getting the name changed on an airline ticket with another carrier. And even more so, why that although I purchased the flight, that the person I listed down is the only one that could access the funds. So bascially they could fly any-where that they wanted up to the value of the ticket and I am out $600.

I guess I have learned my lesson with United Airlines and will not be utilizing their services any more as this is too much of a hassle as well as an expense.
