Ticket purchased 4pm 21 april 07 son-in-law died 6.01pm same day. Called to cancel and get refund because of death, was told tough, s-i-l wasn't close enough relative

I booked a ticket at 4pm 4.21.07 and at 6.01pm my son in law died. I had booked the ticket to go home to England to arrange the burial of my mothers remains. I called BMD Travel services (what a misnomer that is) and asked them for a refund because of my son in law's death. The agent told me that because he wasn't a close relative they wouldn't refund my ticket, but for $325 they would rebook my ticket. I asked why no refund, they told me airline policy. I then called Northwest Airlines who I was supposed to be flying on. They were so helpful and tried everything they could to help but were unsuccessful because of the ticket being booked with BMD.

Northwest also told me that my son-in-law was definitely a close enough realtive and they would have given me a full refund. I paid $777.00 and adding another $325 to change the ticket didn't make it any kind of bargain, plus I don't know when my 28 yr old daughter will be stable enough to leave. The best, after talking to an agent I asked to speak to a supervisor, he then became a supervisor, so I asked to speak to the Office Manager, gave my number and waited for a call. Nothing! I then called back and guess what the phone was answered by the office manager, who also had no compassion and couldn't have cared less, pay the change fee or lose your money. Well I lost my son-in-law and I couldn't do anything about that but I am going to do something about my money.
