Fairfield Resort
Ripoff salespeople deceptive and misrepresenting of Discovery program details

Traveling & Tourism

I was fooled again. Yet another wolf in sheeps clothing has deceived me in the world of timeshares... Only this time I at least got the name of the thief. My wife and I visited Las Vegas last summer to once again be coerced into a 90 minute / 3 hour sales promotion of their Grand Desert resort. After 2 hours of refusing everyday "last offer" they could come up with my wife and I were about ready to walk out of the Fairfield Grand Desert's exhausting presentation. That is until Anna Marie showed up. I assume she was the resorts last ditch effort to con you into commiting to something. Only this deal seemed, and as it turned out of course wasn't, a really good deal to "try" their product. Anna Marie offered us what essentially amounted to a "free, No-risk" trial of Fairfield resorts.

She explained to us that if we were to submit to purchasing the Discovery package as a trial at about $2400 the money would be set aside and at the end of the trial we could do one of two things: we could trade up and use the money to purchase a full membership in the VIP program, or if at the end we still decided that we would not want to purchase the full membership we would get our money back and that would be it. I know, who would fall for that? Well after being convinced that this was the case by her managers approval and our persistence that we could get our money back and our collective naivete that the Fairfield/Wyndham resorts would not allow such blatant deceptive practices by their sales personnel we fell for it. After we decided to look at the contract again and noticed that we didn't see the offer that she sold us, we contacted the company only to be told the obvious. I have called the actual sales agent and have yet to receive a callback, but I am persistent. Stay tuned for an update. I swear I will never again deal in anything smelling like, sounding like, or looking like any combination of time or share ever again. I am not sure if there is a such thing as a legitimate timeshare or not but this just seems criminal.

Reading some of the horror stories on this website has me afraid to buy anything having to do with a contract or that involves a salesperson. The said truth is that I am a sales manager but my company has a stiff ethics policy and never jeopardizes the company's reputation for a menial sale. It is embarassing that I was duped into this situation, but maybe it is a blessing in disguise. If I am able to stop some of this behavior by joining a class action against companies like this it will be well worth it just to expose companies like this. Even if other companies spring up after the death of the next one to go down, at least someone will be protected from the next bloodsucker to come along. I urge everyone that have been victimized by such tactics to stand up. You are far from alone. Stay tuned...
