Fairfield Resorts
Misleading pitch to buy package to visit

Traveling & Tourism

My complaint is the presentation on the phone to sell the packages to visit the resorts. I take good notes, so I'm 99% sure they did not tell me the things I'm going to complain about, things they used to convince me to buy the packages.

Examples: 1. They tell you that you will get 4 $10 gas certificates. They fail to mention that you can only use one a month, and about all the conditions that must be met to actually get the $40.2. Two free nights at Super 8. Think you can use it when you go for your tour to extend your visit by 2 days? No, must make reservations 7 days in advance and can only use one coupon per year (2006 & 2007). 3. Two "Get Up & Go" nights at a resort location with no presentation requirement. Failed to mention you can't use this for 6 months, and there's a 30-day advance reservation requirement.

Also, when we took our tour in Branson, we were supposed to get our $50 deposit refunded. This did not happen until I complained.

All my complaints are met with concern and helpfulness, but I still say these packages are designed to include incentives they will never have to pay out on because most consumers won't be able to keep them all straight.

At our presentation, we also heard the business about how much this would mean to our family, and the implication that if we didn't purchase a timeshare, we really weren't making our family a priority, and they could even inherit this! What stopped the salesman dead in his tracks was this statement: "We wouldn't dream of purchasing something like this without having our attorney look everything over, just as we wouldn't purchase a piece of real estate without an attorney."
