Valle Crucis Log Cabin Rentals
Ripoff dishonest unauthorized deduction from security deposit

Traveling & Tourism

I am no stranger to Valle Crucis Log Cabin Rentals (VCLCR), their cabin accommodations, rules, amenities, or contracts. I have utilized their services for 10 years, and we have always treated their rental property as if they were our personal homes. With the addition of some couples, the people in our group who have been staying with VCLCR have all stayed previously and are also familiar with the accommodations, rules, and the amenities.

The trip to the mountains is at least 5 hours for most of my guests that attend the weekend getaway, and everyone tries to take as less as possible (only packing the minimum of clothes, food, and drinks) because we are aware that everything else will be provided. We are all familiar with the cabins and the fact that each one that we reside in will have gas grills. I along with the other members of my group that stayed at VCLCR all have gas grills at home (new and old) that we use quite frequently, and we are very familiar with how to use them.

Under no circumstances should anyone in my group have a desire to purchase and/or bring charcoal to any of the VCLCR, and we have not.in fact, this was the first year that I saw charcoal in their gas grills. I stayed in the cabin Dream Catcher, and the gas grill did not work at all. My reservations were made a couple of days prior to my arrival/check-in allowing VCLCR the opportunity to properly prepare the cabin for our check-in and my grill did not work. When I opened the grill, there was charcoal all along the bottom of the grill (not lava rocks). We tried several times throughout the weekend to ignite our gas grill to no avail.

The people who stayed in Pipe Dream consisted of 4 couples and a set of 7 year old twin boys. One couple is 35 and 34 years old (a social worker and director of financial advisors); another couple is 36 and 38 years old (a detective for a police department and a principal for a high school); the 3rd couple has twin boys and are 35 and 36 years old (an elementary school teacher and a banker for one of the biggest financial institutions in the southeast); and the 4th couple is 26 and 27 years old (UPS manager and preschool teacher).

This group was originally supposed to stay in a cabin called Appalachian Satisfaction (A.S.), but upon check-in and review of the cabin, it was not acceptable to the group for lodging. I expressed my disapproval to Ms. - about the cabin, and it took a long discussion before she finally agreed to change our cabin reservation. Of the available cabins, Pipe Dream was the cabin selected to replace A.S., and it took us about 35 minutes to view the cabin, sign the new contract for it at the leasing office, and receive the keys. The group checked in immediately after receiving the keys for their cabin that was about 2 miles from the leasing office (not leaving a lot of time for housekeeping/maintenance to arrive). There was no one in the cabin when they arrived.

Upon viewing Pipe Dream with Ms. - , she expressed that the 3 story cabin had not been cleaned or properly prepared for check in (which was obvious upon entering the cabin), but she would get a housekeeper over to make sure the linen and towels were fresh, etc. While I looked at the patio (for view purposes), we never went outside to view the grill because after my long unnecessary discussions with Ms. - over things that should have been automatic, we were most concerned with better living arrangements from the one that would have been provided at A.S.

Ms. - nor I inspected the grill or the area around it, and neither one of us can attest that there was or was not a bag of charcoal sitting around/near the grill area or any other parts of the cabin. As it turned out, the cabin was physically okay, but there were other issues. The hot tub was dirty and not usable (housekeeping/maintenance?) which was further indication that the cabin was not properly prepared for check in for anyone. The grill would not work. I spoke with all of the couples occupying Pipe Dream and all of them denied bringing/purchasing charcoal.

They were all aware upon making arrangements to go to the mountains that they would have access to a gas grill (they have all lodged with VCLCR before and are very familiar with the amenities). Charcoal was in the grill upon their check-in. Upon check-out, one of the VCLCR associates made mention of a possible issue without giving me a lot of detail and said that Ms. - would be calling me to follow up.

I never received a phone call, email, or letter from Ms. - expressing any issues.in fact, the only notification I received about an issue was a brief note, accompanied with a Work Order form, and a deduction of $22.50 from my security deposit (all received together about 5 weeks after check-out).

The people in my group that have been utilizing the lodging services of VCLCR are all responsible adults ranging from the age of 26 to 55. We have responsibly occupied 1 to 5 cabins at one time for 10 years with no major issues with VCLCR. We have always treated their cabins as if they were our personal homes and left them in the best conditions upon departure. I am truly saddened and disappointed that Ms. — would accuse us of damaging one of their gas grills by burning charcoal in it. We have never burned charcoal in their gas grills.

For the year of we paid $900 in deposits and $2800 in rentals fees for the weekend of March 3-5 to VCLCR. Responsible adults do not pay that kind of money to rent property and leave intentional/unintentional damages (especially a $22.50 gas grill damage), and neither did we. We are a group of responsible adults that like to get away on weekend trips to enjoy each other and different areas of our country.

VCLCR can agree that we have never caused them any problems, and there have not been any issues that we have not been able to resolve through a telephone conversation until this year. I can not understand why we have experienced so many issues with VCLCR. We have not made any special requests from VCLCR, and the customer service received from Ms. Neudstadt has been less than optimal. This year we spent the most money that we have ever spent with VCLCR for one weekend of lodging and this has become our worst experience with them.

I have reviewed the signed contractual agreement by myself from VCLCR. We have not violated any acts of it, and are therefore, entitled to receive our deposit in full. The balance of $22.50 is owed to me by Valle Crucis Log Rentals.
