Wrightway Moving
Eric Wright damaged personal property, threatened physical violence, and made ridiculous counter offer

Shops, Products, Services

I hired Eric's company to pack and move my home from McKinney, TX to Little Elm, TX. The packers showed up an hour late on the 20th of June and were grossly negligent with my possessions, packing heavy objects on top of fragile objects, and missed several cabinets we requested be packed while packing several items we clearly stated were not to be packed, including MY CAR KEYS! My wife and I noticed a few of the above after the packers had left when we tried to locate items that weren't supposed to be packed. We contacted Eric and he said he'd come out first thing in the morning with the movers and bring the packers with him to address my concerns.

Then on the 21st of June, the movers arrived over an hour late and were in an unmarked truck with no TX or US DOT numbers, no company information, etc. Eric was nowhere to be seen. The movers quickly damaged a piece of bedroom furniture requiring me to tell them to halt working until Eric arrived. I called Eric and he said he was on his way. Nearly an hour later, he finally showed up with the packers and we began addressing the concerns. He took responsibility for the damage and address my concerns, saying he would pay for the damage per our contract. I allowed his employees to continue working and along the way they damaged several more items as well as the walls and floors of our houses. I informed the head laborer each time and he said to notate it on the claim form I would file.

After the move was completed, I contacted Tanya who said she would e-mail me a claim form and that I had 30 days to file my claim (TXDOT says 90 days). I filled out the claim form and turned it in, using the state minimum $0.60/lb rate that Wrightway uses. The total came out to be a little over $500. I included copies of receipts and pictures of the damage as requested. Eric failed to respond for nearly 3 weeks and refused to return several voicemails. I finally got him on the phone and he said he was not going to pay $500 in damage and that he would pay $50. I told him that was unacceptable and that my claim was for less than the actual cost to repair and that I shouldn't be losing money for his employee's negligence. He said he would make a few phone calls and call me back. After not hearing back from him for a week, I called him. He informed me he wouldn't be paying and that if I chose to continue to purse this claim, "he knew where I lived" - an obvious threat of violence against myself and my family. I have since contacted the police and filed a police report and a restraining order.
