United Home Improvement Centers... Took our 50% deposit and ran, never to be seen again!

We wanted an awning for our back slider, and this scam artist promised to deliver! After signing a contract with him and giving him the required down payment, he actually Fedex'd us some samples for the metal finish within a few days.

When we indicated our selections to him, he gave us a 3-4 week lead time for completion of the project.
We called no less than 10 times over the course of the next few MONTHS, to determine when they would install the awning, most messages having to be left on an answering machine.

I even took a ride down to Tustin to check out their operation, which was nothing more than a front... A small industrial garage with a table and computer. The underling there (Brent?) told me that they actually made the awnings at another site, and that the installer would call us that week to schedule the install. Never heard back from them.
