Corporate Controllers Unit
Good question Deceptive Advertising

Corporate Controllers Unit sent the "official looking" form to me that looked like my business registration with the Secretary of State had expired and $225 was due. On further examination, the form proved to be deceptive advertising, appearing to be a government form though it isn't.
I did the following: Sent a letter to CCU demanding any personal and business information be deleted from their database (s) and I wanted no further contact from them by mail, telephone or email.
Sent a report to the Denver Better Business Bureau alerting them of the bogus form. The Corporate Controllers Unit does not appear to be a Denver BBB member by the way.
Reported them to the Secretary of State's office to see if any legal action could be taken there.
There is verbage on the envelope and on the form stating this is not a government document but it is designed to be not obvious. While this... Firm... May have jumped all the legal hurdles, they are obviously trying to snag people who don't read the information carefully.
For those new to business, the yearly registration with the secretary of state is a five minute visit to the website and cost is minimal. Be aware!
