Periodic Report annual fee scam to collect $225, sent official looking form to scare business owner into paying bogus fee

First, I thank complaint for being there to help me and others. If I did not have this forum to find out if I'm being scammed, I may have paid this bogus fee because life is too busy to spend hours investigating. An internet site like this saves time, money and aggravation.
On April 2 my small business received an official-looking mailing with a Return Address "Corporate Controllers Unit 600 17th St, Ste 2800 South, Denver CO 80202. Business Mail - Important Notice Enclosed. This is not a Goverment Document" yes, government is spelled wrong on the envelope.
The envelope contains an official looking "Periodic Report" and a Seal for the Corporate Controllers Unit. It states that the Colorado Corporations Code Requires Periodic Report. This is true; however, the Secretary of State truly official report is only a $10.00 fee for filing the annual report of a corporation.
The Due Date is April 15 which puts pressure on the recipient, leaves little time for a busy person to investigate the legitimacy of the document.
There is a "postage required" self-addressed envelope inside indicating that the form and your check for $225 should be mailed to PO Box 46518, which is different from the return street address on the mailing envelope.
Again, I am glad to have a place to report this at no cost and to feel good about helping others to avoid this scam.
