Ripoff unfair charges long waits for customer service

We have two phones with Alltel and we are angry. Right now they have shut off both phones because of past due bills. With the first phone when we signed up we got some roadside assistance that we had to take. It was free for the first couple of months.

Well after I began to get charged for it I called to shut it off. The man that I talked to to pay my bill was very nice but said that he could not take this off for me. I would have to talk to a customer service agent. So he transferred me and I waited and waited. I finally had to hang up.

So I continued to pay this charge for several more months. Then I got a bill that had a $35.00 reconnect fee. They charged me this for paying my bill the day past due over the phone with my credit card. My phone was never shut off though. But do you think that I could talk to anyone about this? No, they keep you on hold for hours.

So I have not paid my bill the past two months because I refuse to pay this charge. So now they did shut off my phone, but I continue to get charged for service. This is rediculous. Now the same thing happened to my husband's phone. He got charged a $35.00 reconnect fee for no reason. His phone never got shut off either so there was no reason to reconnect. So once again I tried to call them. I waited for 1hour and 50 minutes before I hung up. We also had a little less than 9 dollars in roaming fees. We made these calls in our home town where we should not be getting charged roaming fees. But since I can't talk to anyone about the charges, his phone now got shut off too.
