Expected $300 charge, got a $900 charge!

I rented a drill and 10in diamond hole saw bit. Typically when you rent a tool like this one the machine will be inspected by both the renting clerk and you to note any pre-existing damage or deficiencies and the diamond tipped saw bit will be measured in your presence to ensure all parties agree to its size before it is removed from the property.
In this instance none of this transpired.in fact the machine was brought directly out to the van and loaded without even a brief instruction on how to properly use the machine!
When we got the machine to the job site and started to use it we noticed that the housing on one side had extensive damage, but we though nothing about it since we were sure the company had noted this damage and was aware of it or that they simply didnt care and considered it a consequence or nature of the business they are in.
We returned the machine to another location that was more convienent to us and upon turning the machine in they again did not inspect it nor measure the wear on the bit in our presence.
Several days later I recieved an adjusted bill in the amount of $900!!! For a rental I expected to pay between $200 - $300. The reason given was that the machine was damaged. And particularly a gearbox on the machine that actually was not damaged at the time of turn in. The damage occurred in transport between the two branches. However, the company decided to bill us for the damage and for excessive wear to the bit, that we could not verify due to the failure of the clerk to measure the bit at the time of rental.
Do not rent from this company they have practices, or lack of, that are not fair or consistent with the industry. If you must rent from them make sure to protect yourself and demand that an inspection take place before you agree to rent and insist that any and all damage be recorded on your rental agreement. Make certain any wear parts are measured in your presence and you agree the measurement is accurate. If you fail to do this you will get hit with an extortionist amounts of fees.
Arts Tool Rental or Arts Rental Equipment are high to start with when it comes to tool rentals, I have found rates at half their prices at other locations. I suggest Home Depot or Lowes for must hand tools and smaller specialized tools. If you need larger type machines your better off seeking out another company.
