Fraudulently billing me for damages 3 months after i returned my rental ca

I rented a car from this company and upon returning it a woman came out to inspect the car and accepted that i returned it in the same shape as it left in. The car was a Chevy Camaro convertible which did not have a damaged top and which the company said they do not have to check.

I returned the car 10 nov. 2002 and just now have been notified by the company in a letter dated 7 feb. 2003 that i now owe them $331.78 for damage to the convertible top, 1 day loss of use, and a"processing fee". According to the person i spoke with the car went out rented the next day but was brought back because of damage to the top.

It would seem to me that after cleaning the car the day i returned it the damage would have been noted and the car would have not been rented the next day.in renting the car the next day the company obviously inspected it with the renter and noticed no damage at that time either. The top was raised after cleaning and locked in place, with no apparent damage and rented out the next day and now 3 months after the fact this company is billing me for damage incurred on soeone elses shift because it certainly did not happen on mine.

I let this letter speak for itself and encourage everyone not to do any business with this company and as my lesson learned, to never quit control of any rental unless the company has given you a written release from damages. Written release from damages should be a required by law aspect of car renting, and with that i will let my lawyer show them what a bogus operation they are running at FLORIDA AUTO RENTAL, FT.
