Zales
Ripoff

Well this is quite a long story involving Zales jewelers, I'll sum it up as best I can.

My fiance purchased my engagement ring quite a long time before he actually popped the question. So when he finally proposed I saw the ring for the first time. It is a center diamond with four channel set diamonds on each side. Needless to say the center diamond has a piece of carbon so big you can see it across the room and several of the side diamonds are almost black. My fiance had no idea what he was getting into when he bought this, but he was trying.

I took the ring to be appraised by two separate jewelers (not Zales). Both of whom stated that the diamond was fracture filled (which is illegal to sell without disclosing the information). I also had the receipt with me for what he originally paid as well as the original work order to replace the original diamond with a larger one. Neither of the jewelers determined that the diamond was the size he had paid for, it was smaller.

I called Zales with my information, despite the huge time gap I wanted something to be done, I didn't care if they gave me a new diamond but I felt that my fiance did not get what he paid for and shold at least receive a refund of some kind. There is also a clause on the Zales card (which he paid with) that if you are unhappy for any reason you are entitled to a full refund. The only thing Zales would do was offer an appraisal with their own appraiser. He, of course, went on to say how beautiful a diamond it is, (after telling us how awful it is to be married) however he also stated that the diamond was smaller than what was paid for. We confronted the sales people with this information and were told there was nothing that could be done.

I sent emails as well as called the regional manager and all to no avail. I haven't heard a word back from anyone at Zales. We have since put the whole thing behind us in an effort to not let it ruin such a happy time, however I wanted to make people aware of what goes on at Zales and to warn people to stay away!
