Taj Hall, Ashfaq Ripped us off for our wedding, claims to be bankrupt

My then-fiance and I scheduled to have our wedding and reception at Taj Hall reception center. After paying the business in full and the unavoidable occurence of a natural disaster, we cancelled our wedding. Other businesses we had booked for the day gave us our money back and gave us their sympathy for families stuck in the disaster area.

When approaching the owner or son of the owner, Ashfaq, he said that 1000 of our money was nonrefundable and he couldn't give us all the money back unless it was in installments. We explained what the other businesses did and he would not budge.

Over time, we have tried to talk to him and reason with him (he says that we had a nonrefundable policy, meanwhile we had never seen or signed a contract with him in the six short weeks we had been planning the wedding). He said that he would give us all the money back over installments but not the nonrefundable deposit.

Now he is saying he can't give us any money and he has to consult his dad in India who controls the money. I think they are going bankrupt... Whatever the case, he is dishonest and no one should use or support his business.
