$1 Million Dollar 2nd Place Winner Sweepstakes sponsered by Reader's Digest Magazine

January 2
I received a letter today from Publishers Clearing House stating I was the second place winner of a 7 million dollar grand prize drawing.included in the envelope was a certified check for $5,890.00 from Kimmer's Ace of Clubs in Nekoosa, WI. The letter stated the check was to cover any outstanding fees that PCH didn't pay for directly. The letter also instructed me to contact my representative, Mrs. Rose Fletcer, without delay BEFORE depositing the check. The last paragraph of the letter reads: "It is obligated by U.S. Federal law that your SECURITY CODE AND PRIZE INFORMATION ARE KEPT HIGHLY CONFIDENTIAL for safety and security reasons. The internal Revenue agent handling your file is Mr. Henry Cohen". The letter is signed by Albert Garners, Chief Financial Officer of Publishers Clearing House.

I did get excited for about a minute; started thinking what I was going to spend the money on, and then reality set in and I just knew it had to be scam; nothing (especially receiving money) is never as simple as opening a letter from your mailbox. I started searching the internet and sure enough I found several, very similiar scams.

Darn-it-all, I could of really used the money too!

It's amazing how "official" looking both the notification and the check are. It's no wonder so many people get scammed. I hope by filing this report that this information will help others who find themselves in a similiar circumstance.

I will be hanging on to both the letter and the check; who knows, maybe it will be useful in helping to find and prosecute those involved.
