After a storm in my area I was unable to receive some of my HD channels. After going through a series of resetting my receiver, I still was unable to receive a frequently watched HD channel. I contacted Direct TV and after a series of testings which I am unable to articulate as the technology is beyond my understanding, I was informed that the frequency that was used to receive the HD channel which initiated the service call, as well as other HD channels which I don't watch, were no longer available to me. To reset my satellite settings to enable the reception of these channels would necessitate a service call which would cost me $79.95 or $5.95 per month after a $19.95 initial payment. I asked for the HD package, which included the channel I am unable to receive, and I agreed to continue in this service for a 12 month period, accepting that if I cancelled the service prior to the 12 months, I would owe an early cancellation fee. Direct TV was suppose to provide the channels which were covered in the package which I purchased. Direct TV has not given notice of any change of service, and I feel it is unfair that I have to pay an additional fee because of a frequency change which I did not have knowlege of or agreed to pay extra for. I do not watch a lot of TV. I am not a sports fan and I am on a fixed budget. Direct TV has reduced the service which I negotiated and am paying for. I am watching this programming on a non HD channel, but I feel that I am paying for HD service which I am not receiving and the customer service rep which I spoke with told me in so many words, tough s*! I refuse to pay any more and as soon as my contract is up, I'm done with Direct TV.
