Best Buy - Portfolio Recovery Bought this from Arrow finacial. It is over 12 years old and was settled years ago. Trying to say we owe over 5,000! Very rude on the phone

This was a Best Buy card we had in 1996.. Was settled. Then arrrow financial must of purchaced it and wanted $900. Then just this May Portfolio Recovery purchased it from them. They say the reason it is still showing up is a payment was made in 2003... I went thru all my bank records no such payment was made.

So first they are lying and say we owe over $5,000! Then they go back and forth with settlement offers... From 2,000 to over $5,000 depending on how they get paid.

How all this started was we our trying to get a line of credit. (I do not know why we our having so much trouble as we own our house... Paid off completly.) We needed the money for my sons college education a few other things. We were only applying for $30,000 and our house is worth between 190,000 TO 200,000.

Then they told me if we pay right now with a personal check it would be $2,220 but if we went thru the bank (got the loc and the bank paid it) it would go back up to over $5,000!

First of all we do not owe this... The ironic part of this is I have a Best Buy card!

I am not paying something I do not owe but I feel like we our in a rock and hard place!

What can we do! On top of everything these people are very rude. Oh, and it should not even be on our credit report as it is almost 12 years old!
