Moving Scam

I received what I thought was a pretty reasonable quote from Advantage Moving and Storage of almost $2300 to move me from Atlanta, GA to Durham NC. I gave the person who provided me with the quote a very detailed list of items I had and he gave me an estimated cubic footage of about 600 cf. After I expressed concern about this being too low for the cubic feet several times, he changed the cubic feet to a higher number but kept the price the same by lowering the price per cf. This seemed reasonable and when he did it again, I felt more comfortable that the cubic feet he had was close to what I actually owned. I agreed to the move and gave $100 as a deposit.

6 movers showed up at my house to pack my belongings. It only took them a couple hours but the cubic feet they ended up with was 1900 which was still pretty high over what they originally gave me (1400). Not to mention, they overcharged me for many packing items they used and left my house a shambles. There was trash in nearly every corner.

When my delivery date neared, the company called to reschedule for the following day (a sunday) at 9am. The movers, only 2 of them this time, showed up at 3:30 pm. It took them 8 hours to unload finishing around midnight. There were 5 or 6 boxes missing from the shipment as well.

To compound the problem, most of my items were dropped off whereas the rest were scheduled to be dropped off immediately afterwards at a second residence 3 hours away. I left around midnight to make the drive at the same time as the delivery truck. I arrived close to 4am Monday morning and waited for an hour for the truck to show up before finally falling asleep. They didn't get there until 7:30 am and then unloaded there. 2 more boxes were missing. This took about 2 or 3 hours at which point I drove the 3 hours back home, missing work on Monday.

At the first residence the two movers damaged a door beyond repair and the surrounding wall (they noted it on the receipt even) and drove onto freshly laid grass sod.
