Automatic Bank Debits Without Permission Caused Overdrafts

Aaron's Rents in Killeen has repeatedly debited my bank account automatically without permission. Each time, the debit put me into overdraft. When we contacted the accounts manager, James (last name never given), he smugly said that if we made our payments on time we would not have to worry about this.

How can a company that gets its payments, and even gets its late payment fee when they are late, automatically debit an account when it has never been given permission, either written or implied? In fact, we have always called in our payments.
