Magazine Clearinghouse scam. Use deceptive practices to lure you, then bill you for magazines you never recieve and ruin your credit. Virginia BEACH

Some how this company recieved my phone number.initially they didn't make it clear that they were a magazine clearinghouse company. They informed me that I was in the running for a sweepstakes.initially I told them I wasn't interested but the person on the phone was persistant. I decided to sign up.

I informed the representative I spoke to, that I couldn't pay immediately but if they would debit my account on a certain date, that would work for me. The rep said ok. I checked my account later that day and the company debited my account after I specifically told them, I could not pay that day. I called the company back, they fixed the situation. However later, all the magazines I asked for never showed up. They also promised a watch, which I have yet to recieve.

I later recieved another phone call, from what I thought was Area Circulation, asking if I were satisfied with my service. I informed them that I had not yet recieved my subscriptions. They apologized for the mistake, then the rep transfered me to his "supervisor", the supervisor asked if the rep I spoke with was courteous, then he bagan speaking very fast, rattling off names of magazines I had never heard of, that I had allegedly asked to subcribe to. He informed me that I could change the subscriptions when ever I wanted but I still could not understand why tell me that, when I know I did not ask for the magazines he mentioned.

He later stated that another company was posing as them, trying to sign up their customers. The supervisor then rattled off about account payments and how much I would be paying over the next few months. I questioned it, because i was already paying. I told him I wasn't interested but he was persistant and I went ahead with the payment.

After some thought I called the number back, deciding to cancel my subsriptions with Area Circulation, everytime I call, the number is busy.initally I thought it was a coincidence but after calling 5 times I was beginning to think that this was on purpose. I called my bank and informed them about my situation with Area Circulation.

My bank advised me to cancel my debit card, which I did. After that, the company began calling my employment which I have repeatedly asked them not to. I informed them that they were more than welcome to call me after work. However they still call me on my work number.

I may not be she sharpest tool in the shed, and I have a hard time telling people no. I think it is sad, that companies stoop to low pratices such as these to make a buck.
