Columbia house has managed to send consumers to collections by pulling off this scam:

1.) columbia house sends you videos, you havent ordered
or if you ordered a video, they've sent the wrong one

2.) you are given # 1-800-590-6656, along with the bill.

3.) that 1800# has an automated system designed to keep you on a longer than usual hold time, then phone line drops the call

4.) late fees accumulate,

5.) emails are sent, they assure u somebody will contact you within 2 days

6.) IN 2 DAYS. A letter arrives. PLEASE CALL 1-800-590-6656 for account assistance.

7.) Due to non-payment of this unwanted merchandise... And the late fees accumulated in the time you've spent trying to contact them, your account has gone to collections. Where another lovely company will continue to exploit money from u.

*There are fraudulent fees charged to your account. They know consumers will dispute the debt, so they provide u with a non-working 800#. You can eighter pay the balance, or those late fees will continue growing.

Accounts that have high balances, are easily sold to 2nd party collectors who love to buy them. Because more profit is made from high bal. Accounts, as opposed to smaller ones. So columbia house makes more profit selling these accounts, rather than keeping your unpaid account, or worse... Answering your calls to "write-off" the late fees.

They defraud collection companies by selling them, unvalid accounts they will never be able to collect on.
*And they send us to collections, without giving us proper contact numbers to let us dispute their claims.

These are unfair buisness practices... A lawsuit will be filed
