Cingular WIreless
Ripoff-fraudulent international calling service set up and discontinuance of service

Shops, Products, Services

Prior to a European family trip I established International calling service for our 4 family members on June 9 and was told that I would pay $5.99 per phone for the service. Upon return from Europe, I called Cingular and requested that the service be discontinued on July 10. My son left for college Sept 1. On October 16, I received a cingular statement with $1,200 in international calls on his phone.

After many calls to Cingular, I finally was connected with a supervisor. He explained that I did discontinue the $5.99 montly international service on the phone but I did not ask to have the capability for international calls removed.

Apparently, there is a difference between international service and capability for service. I only removed the $5.00 fee which gave the calls a discounted rate. I was also told that it was my responsibility to monitor my son's phone usage. I asked the supervisor how one monitors something they did not know they had. My son did not understand that when his girlfriend in England called him that he was being billed for the call.

Cingular said they would give me $250 credit not because they had any fault but were doing so to be good to me.
Beware of Cingular's deceitful practices.
