Refuses to Service Customers When Disconnecting Cell Service ripoff

Cingular Wireless customer service is poorly trained and rude to their customers - especially if you are disconnecting your cell phone service. I was closing my account and was giving the phone to my relatives to be used overseas and needed to obtain the "unlock" code so it can be used in Europe. I was told by a manager at customer service (Catherine Fox - who was nice and helpful) that a request would be made to obtain the code.

After a month of calling back each week on what was the status of the request I was finally told by Sarah in the international department that the domestic customer service department did not obtain all the info needed and that only the international group provided the "unlock" codes.

After obtaining the IMEI number from the phone that Sarah requested, I called the international group back with the info... And this is where Cingular really shows how much they care about customers... A Harry Miller answered my call and said that Cingular does not give out the unlock codes to customers who have disconneted their service. (A statement completely opposed to what I have been told by all prior customer service reps).

Needless to say, Harry Miller had no interest in hearing anything that I had to say and ranted about going to the web to find a website that provides the "unlock" code, because the almight Cingular wouldn't help me. After being subjected to Harry Miller's haughty attitude I decided that Cingular is not a business I would ever do business with again.

Based on my experience with Cingular, and in particular, Harry Miller (a customer service rep who needs to be fired.) I will never do business with them again, and suggest that anyone wishing to cancel their phone service and obtain the unlock code for their phone to be prepaired do deal with a customer service team that will tell you a different story each time you call.

To date, this issue has not been resolved.
