Ripoff moving scam

From an Internet search, I got several estimates for trucking my 1BR furniture from California to New York. The lowest bid (by far) was from 1way2move.net. First sign of trouble was when they messed up the estimate and quoted us a price to North Carolina. When we told them that we were moving to New York, not NC, they did not adjust the price at all, saying it was "all the same"

The next month a young guy came to pick our stuff up. I though he was Egyptian, but turns out he was Israeli. We noticed he worked alone. We told him we were moving to NYC and he mentioned that his family had just moved to LA from Brooklyn.

He insisted that we take VERY accurate measurements of the space available in his truck, which was apparently very full of other people's stuff. It was a huge truck and it was already 95% full.

Four hours later, he managed to shoehorn all our stuff in the truck. Our bed was tied to the OUTSIDE of the truck, crushed against some bicycles. Things did not look good. Then he tells us that since we were over the allotted 400 cubic foot limit, the quote had doubled to $3000. This was quite shocking, because I don't know how they ever arrived at that 400 cubic foot estimate from the data I provided on their web site.

At this point, we have little choice but to pay up since, we are already on a time crunch and it's too late to look for other movers and they know this.

Our furniture arrives in NY through a subcontractor. The driver asks me if the moving company had "treated me alright". I was unsure of what he had meant until I looked inside the truck and noticed that all my belongings had been completely trashed.

Essentially everything was destroyed, with water damage, all boxes violently crushed. Glassware broken, furniture carelessly scratched. They did no additional packing. Our bed was black with filth and our leather furniture was cut up and ruined. Even the bicycles were bent up and crushed as if everything had gone through a trash compactor.

The driver then asked me again: "did you do anything to piss these guys off? Because what they did was not right".

As we unloaded all of our stuff we noticed more horrors in his truck: it was full of other people's ruined furniture, golf clubs, sofas. Everything was trashed. They asked me if I wanted something else from their truck (like the golf clubs), but I declined. I also noticed that they had run over a small tree on the way here and they had hid that tree in their truck.

Absolutely horrible experience overall. Please avoid 1way2move.net at all costs. They seem to be the same company as 1way2move.com (banned from the BBB), which has simply relocated to the LA area.
