If you cancel your sevice after contract is up. They still want to charge a fee

I cancelled my service with Directv after 3 years (march). I was told I owed nothing and actually showed a credit on my account. 2 months later I received a bill for 47.66 for an early cancellation fee. They say the computer shows that I agreed to another contract in August. No such agreement was made. They keep trying to charge me this cancellation fee and the disputes department wont even call me to try to settle this.

I have called customer service and nothing gets done, even supervisors are no help. I get a collections letter a month after my last 2 hour phone call with customer service wanting to collect a debt I don't even owe. I was planning to go back to directv after I moved but if this is how they treat someone that paid early every month for 3 years then I do not want to do business ever again with them. What a way to treat customers.
